To The Daily Sun,
Moultonborough voters should apply the grain-of-salt rule to opinion pieces published here, especially those that present themselves as fact. I will fully acknowledge that being a member of the school board (these are my impressions only, not the full board), being a parent of young children, being a person that enjoys low taxes but also community programming all affect my worldview and my “townview.”
Lately, a vociferous and voracious group of citizens promote their own interpretations of data and dollars right here in black and white and want you to believe that the Moultonborough school system is going down the tubes. It’s not.
It’s a solid, stable, single-town school system with an excellent reputation that requires funding, maintenance, and even some upgrades during record inflation and culture-war times. So why don’t more people speak up in its defense then? Because adding fuel to the fire is rarely helpful these days. Because some citizens have more time to commit to their political passions than others have to engage with them repeatedly.

Silence is not agreement. One thing I can agree on, please come to the Moultonborough Annual School District Meeting on March 9. Parents, grandparents, educators, school supporters — please do not assume the budget or the school improvement projects will pass easily this year — we need you more than ever.
