To The Daily Sun,

The Community Garden Club of Meredith has its 75th anniversary coming up in 2026. Hopefully we can do something to celebrate but the organization is in the throes of closing. The club has plenty of members, 60 or so, but no leaders to take on the responsibilities of running the activities.

Our society has become more complicated, more business-like, efficient. That takes planning, organization, and lots of time. These are skills many members have but lack the time in our busy society to act on.

The club will continue to facilitate the weed and feed program under the leadership of Nancy Lavigne and Julie Rizzo. For years we have flowered the town buildings and byways. We blitzed the town with thousands of daffodils for the 250th town anniversary. This coming year we are to remove the time capsule placed in Hesky Park in 2001 and hopefully replace it for the next 25 years.

We need to rethink the value of the club. Not only work on plantings but the making of pollinator homes, bat and bird homes, and continued beautification of our spectacular town. How about another thousand daffodils sprouting up in surprising places, around old stone walls, along the roadways. How about guys? We must have some male gardeners.

We can simplify. Be less structured, more versatile, more giving of our time. If we each gave two or three hours to the Club each season, we could make the Club work.

Please think about keeping the Community Garden Club going.
