George Winchell: Let's see what investigation reveals before casting judgment on officers

I normally do not submit rebuttals to your letters section, however in this case I have to respond to a letter submitted by Chris White about the unfortunate shooting of the Fay boy.

I am a police officer with close to 50 years of experience, having graduated from the New Hampshire Police Academy. My training then and annual training since have always taught that you do not shoot to injure an individual when yours or another’s life is in "imminent danger” of serious bodily injury, you shoot to incapacitate. Someone with a knife in hand can do serious bodily injury very quickly. This was a tragic situation for all those involved and will affect each and every one of them for many years to come. Can we all just wait until the AG’s Office finishes its investigation into how the events lead up to the actual outcome before we make judgement? I have been very fortunate to have never been in the same situation with that ending, and I wish that scenario on no one.
