To The Daily Sun,
I am writing in support of Bruce Cheney for mayor of Laconia as a former chief for Lakes Region Mutual Fire Aid.
I first met Bruce Cheney when the NH Enhanced 911 System was established by the Legislature and Gov. Judd Gregg. Bruce was selected by the New Hampshire Enhanced 911 Commission, of which I served as chair for 27 years, as the system’s director. Bruce was sincerely dedicated to the effort to launch the first completely computer-based statewide system in the U.S. It was under his initiative that a statewide addressing system was simultaneously developed to complement the 911 system — no easy task in a short timeframe.
In addition to his daily duties overseeing the development of the new system he spent most weeknights traveling to cities and towns across the state to meet with aldermen, councilors and selectmen to assist them in preparing their communities for the most technologically advanced 911 system in the United States at the time. Bruce brought NH’s lifesaving 911 system online ahead of schedule and under budget. Not something we see every day.
He continues his public service as a city councilor in Laconia. He now steps forward as a candidate for mayor. I know he will work tirelessly for the citizens of Laconia as he did for the citizens of New Hampshire. Please support Bruce on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
