David Roberge: Running as police commissioner to meet new challenges

My name is David Roberge, I am running for this election's police commissioner position. I wanted to take this opportunity for those who do not know me and introduce myself.

Out of high school, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, Recon Marines. Returning home to my home town of Dover where I joined the Dover Police Department as a patrolman for the next 3.5 years. Until coming to the Lakes Region to become a Laconia police officer.

As a member of the department we all worked together very hard to make the city a safe and happy environment. I am proud to say we were very successful.

After 10 years of dedicated service I was forced to retire in 1999 due to injuries sustained on duty. 

During my time I enjoyed teaching firearms, participating in public activities and providing safety for our children as a DARE officer, as well as Laconia's motorcycle officer. 

I have never lost my love for the police department and the city. I see the department in a new light with the new challenges being faced in today's world. I am not criticizing the department in any way.

I think fresh ideas to help motivate, increase the pride within and to work with other law enforcement agencies. Working all to build a better bond with the citizens of Laconia. Letting our community see the department that it is.

Law enforcement can't do it alone. Along with myself and our sitting police commissioners, and community support, they need our help. The department should have all the tools it needs, however not losing the personal touch between the officers and the community.

I am asking for readers' vote as the next sitting police commissioner.
