David B. Stowe: Daily Sun shouldn't capitulate to a very vocal minority

To The Daily Sun,

To those outraged by the recent cartoon by Mike Lukovich, I am outraged that there is a need for active shooter drills because our Constitution’s Second Amendment is being so tragically misinterpreted, and our children slaughtered. I am also outraged by the disproportionate number of POC killed by law enforcement, by the systemic racism in America and the existence of privately owned prisons, where a disproportionate number of POC are incarcerated.

The goal of many political cartoons is to make us uncomfortable, to point out where change is needed. For The Laconia Sun to capitulate to a vocal minority and discontinue such cartoons is to abrogate their journalistic responsibility.

I wish those who were so outraged were of the mindset to effect change so that both active shooter drills and the Black Lives Matter movement were rendered unnecessary, but I suspect that is not the case.
