To The Daily Sun,

My 98-year-old dad, who is a World War II Navy veteran, went to do a little food shopping at Market Basket in Tilton on June 23. As he approached the cash register, a male shopper, who was checking out at the register told him to come to his lane because he was getting ready to pay and there would be no waiting. The person waited around after cashing out, talking to my dad. As my dad went to pay with his credit card, the man said, "Wait, I have a card that will get you a discount." After he removed his card, he thanked my dad and left.

My dad tried to insert his credit card and the cashier said he didn't have to, since his groceries were all paid for. Several people around him knew what the generous man had done and had to explain it to my dad. It made him feel so good to have served his country and to be thanked in such a way 80 years later.

These kinds of gestures are what make America great. Thanks to that shopper for their generosity and patriotism.
