To The Daily Sun,

Arlington National Cemetery should be a sacred place of honor and truth, not a cemetery of disgrace where America honors the Confederacy, as Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump propose. The Confederacy killed American Patriots and enslaved four million African Americans, but Hegseth and Trump say that the Confederacy is “American history.”

John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald and Jeffrey Epstein are part of America’s history, too. Using MAGA reasoning, Hegseth and Trump could honor Booth, Oswald and Epstein at Arlington. I hope they don’t. But Trump could honor despicable people in broad daylight on Fifth Avenue and get away with it.

I have a better idea for how the U.S. should spend $10 million at Arlington. America should honor the greatest American Patriots ever, the African-American service men who bravely fought for America during the Jim Crow era but were brutally killed, lynched or maimed, on U.S. soil and elsewhere, some while in their service uniform, by bigots enforcing racial hierarchy. No one in history is more worthy of honor at Arlington than these American Patriots.
