Charles Ajootian: Concepts of diversity, equity and inclusion will prevail

In this year of American celebration, Donald Trump and his conservative followers often frame the story of America as “good” triumphing over “evil.” They correctly include the ending of slavery as one of the most noteworthy of American victories over "evil.”

With the Union’s victory in the U.S. Civil War, and with the passage of the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments, all of which were and are still hated by American conservatives, American progressives prevailed over American conservatives to make diversity, equity and inclusion the law of the land.

America is once again experiencing massive resistance to diversity, equity, and inclusion, but DEI will eventually prevail. Trump and his conservative followers are unintentionally reminding us that, historically, DEI is as American as apple pie.
