To The Daily Sun,
Use of the Nazi swastika in today’s climate means only one thing: a reminder of the Nazi government and what it has come to stand for today, anti-Semitism and race hatred. To have such signage used multiple times at the Laconia Public Library and Opechee Park, which represent open-community places where all are welcome, makes it a conscious message of malevolence. One can’t help but to note that the desecration was made in a way that was as permanent as possible.
Such signage does not represent who we are as a democratic nation! It is not who we are as a state or town! As a community, we need to make sure that we are known as a welcoming place for all who value Laconia as an inclusive community: economically, religiously, politically and educationally.
On Sunday, Oct. 2, at 1 p.m. at Opechee Park, all who stand for a democratic society and against the Nazi destruction of community and peoples are urged to join the Laconia Human Relations Committee as we stand together as a community that respects all.
