Bruce Jenket: Is the Lakes Region in a rigid state of ‘ignorance is bliss?’

Well after two “featured” letters to the editor and a third from Shayna Hughes about New Hampshire schools failing our students, no one has stepped up to defend the poor English and math proficiencies in NH. Nor has anyone from the Moultonborough School Board defended why the cost per student is more than double the national average. The expression “ignorance is bliss” comes to mind.

We are in an unprecedented time where truth and facts are overridden by lies and deception. When I was in grade school, 42% proficiency in math would have been an F. Today it’s acceptable. What happened?

Anyone who reads the opinion section regularly, knows I have called out Democrats for perpetuating the lie that the Trump Tax Cuts & Jobs Act and Big Beautiful Bill were tax cuts for the rich. Two contributors agreed the rich paid more but somehow couldn’t admit that is by definition a tax increase. They both stopped writing when I called them out.

It’s just not those contributors. I wrote to Sens. Maggie Hassan and Jeanne Shaheen, as well as Reps. Maggie Goodlander and Chris Pappas, and asked them to explain how the TC&JA and BBB were a tax cut for the rich when the rich paid 56% more income taxes in 2022 than in 2017. Not a single one responded.

Apparently, if one tells a lie long enough and suppresses the facts, some people will believe anything. The Russia collusion hoax and Hunter Biden's laptop being Russian disinformation lies worked to get President Joe Biden elected in 2020. Democrats and their media mouthpieces are now pushing, ICE is the Gestapo, Donald Trump is a king, killing drug terrorists is a war crime, prosecuting fraud in Minnesota is racist, Trump caused Biden’s inflation, etc. When challenged, Democrats ignore it. “Ignorance really is bliss.”
