To The Daily Sun,

As sheriff of Belknap County, I have seen firsthand how the revolving door of offenders harms not only New Hampshire communities, but the law enforcement officials who are entrusted to protect them.

When law enforcement arrests an offender, they expect that this person will be held accountable for their alleged actions. With weak bail standards, cops often bring in offenders, only to have them be let out on bail, where they are able to do further harm. This practice is discouraging to law enforcement, and dangerous for our communities.

Thanks to the efforts of our leaders in Concord overhauling the current bail system, law enforcement can rest assured that public safety is a top priority. I am grateful to Gov. Kelly Ayotte for her work on these efforts, and look forward to working with her to continue to improve the safety of our state.
