To the editor,
My husband and I have been residents of Gilford for the past 30 years; I have been a member of the Gilford Community Band for the past 15 years. It has been a joy to play in this organization, performing good music, making good friendships with my fellow musicians, and knowing that I am giving something back to my community. I am a graduate of the Boston Conservatory (1966) with major in flute, and I still find there is much to learn. I never go away from a rehearsal or performance without having learned something new in music, whether from older or younger fellow performers whom I enjoy mentoring. My family and extended (inlaws) family always look forward to the concerts as much as I do.
I learned from news last week that the Gilford selectmen plan to cut by 50-percent our operating budget for next year, which would cripple our organization.. I ask the selectmen to please rethink this move and help the Gilford Community Band continue its fine summer seasons of music available to young and old alike.
