To the editor,
Seemingly, Mr. Polidoro is leading a parade of one in trying to "save" the Colonial Theater. Yet, even his own letter shows how little support there has been in the private sector ("...many Laconians have vocalized a desire to save her for over three decades..."). Thirty years! It shows that his ardor for his idea is not widespread. While the theater may have been fabulous early in the last century (nice pix), if it were economically viable to do so, some private group (or person) would have already "saved" it. Given the latest reports that not even the owner has placed much store in its upkeep further indicates that lack of interest or need.
Thus, as with many who have a "good idea", he seemingly has no problem in advocating that taxpayer money ("...city officials will have to...") should be used. Put your the money where your mouth is; if you believe so much in this project, do the necessary private fund raising (e.g., go door to door, hold parties, et al) yourself. Why risk Laconia's taxpayer money where private money fears to tread?
