To the editor,

Just said to Betty: “Since our years in the Lou Athanas Youth Basketball came to an end in 1992 our socializing has been cut back my focus is on my wife, my children, their children, and an important mission — saving the country.”

A former friend once said of me: “Being his friend is not easy.”

That is true. I guess I expect too much from some people.

Misuse of a trust — betrayal for their benefit — and folks who attain public office with my assistance only to renege on their promises culminate into a very short “friends” list.

That is why Thursday’s op-ed pages play a small part in motivation for this letter.

Judie Reever believes because my Ward 5 councilor has lost his way and agrees with her in just spending the taxpayers’ money as if it was the city council and school board’s money that he has “an open mind”. So, does that mean that those of us who believe in fiscal responsibility are different?

Judie and her daughter Beth Arsenault are seeking the office of state representative, and Jim Fitzgerald as state senator.

What do they have in common? All three do not consider the struggling taxpayer in the matter of building new schools? And, therefore, none of them will get my vote in the upcoming elections. If I cannot trust them at the local level — how can I trust them in Concord when it comes to spending?

Folks have been asking me what I’m going to do about Matt Lahey and this city council failing to abide by the tax cap. Question to them: what are YOU going to do?

If you are angry: Tell those you feel have betrayed you; call a local radio talk program; write letters to the papers; and then find candidates to run against them next year — don’t wait!

City Manager Eileen Cabanel has been telling us for nearly two years that the taxpayers of Laconia cannot afford $76 million in new schools — and that is after state aid and considering the interest.

Matt and the gang of five won’t stop at $26 million for a new MMS. They’re just getting warmed up.
