Herb Vadney is now center of attention but we don't recognize him

There are voters that are disappointed in Republican Herb Vadney and his "No" vote to add four guards to the Belknap County Jail. Eight million dollars was expended to build an addition to the jail and now we can not staff the completed new prison.

The prisoners in the over-crowded portion of the old prison and those forced to occupy the attic and the 23 women in the 1898 portion residing in a mini-gym literally do not have a “pot to pee in." They do not have immediate access to a toilet facility. The conditions are dreadful. This is inhumane treatment. The collective consciousness of my buddies struggle with coming to terms with terrible conditions at the jail.

Americans have risen above the level of raw animal without feelings for others. Normally there is feeling for the trapped, oppressed, disenfranchised, weak, burdened and overloaded.

Mr Vadney claims he is principled and just. My breakfast buddies and I saw you as an honorable man and voted for you. You have a responsibility to honor your commitment to your constituency. Yet you ignore our pleas for reconsideration of your vote. Your efforts to hold the taxes down are noble. However, the jail holds more people in protective custody than any other jail in the state. Three quarters of prisoners are shipped out during Motorcycle Week. We pay other country jails to handle our overflow. This does not save us money. This is a cost item.

The current conditions at the prison are risk heavy and inhumane. Refugees living at Templhof Airport in Germany enjoy better living conditions until they are given more permanent residence. You were once admired as a man with incredible integrity only for us to discover you are not the warrior we expected. You have revealed your true nature. You have been transformed by nuanced political issues and complex political infighting and your public persona is altered. . What is your new popular appeal when you have no commitment to resolving the expensive foray of a new prison and horrors of the present living conditions.

My breakfast buddies wonder who you are. Our dilemma is not being able to recognize you. You are now the center of attention standing against popular appeal.

We ask you to renegotiate your relationship with the public by honoring your commitment to the public and opening the new addition with sufficient staff to operate it and get prisoners out of unendurable housing spaces.
