To the editor,

The Lakes Region Board of REALTORS® Public Relations/Community Service Committee has a busy schedule of community service projects planned throughout the region through the end of this year. Our commitment to the towns within our board (35 towns) is to help those in need through fundraising efforts, sponsorship of events, material and financial donations and participating in public events. We help provide an avenue for local agencies and/or REALTOR® members who serve those agencies, to approach the LRBR for assistance.

On October 14, many of us will participate in the Making Strides Walk at Opechee Park in Laconia. The event helps raise money for breast cancer research. We have a large presence of REALTORS® attend each year and are proud to be supportive of the cause. During the month of October we are also planning to volunteer with the Pemi-Valley Habitat for Humanity Chapter in Plymouth. We will be helping a family get one step closer to home ownership while putting our building skills to the test.

In November, to honor those who have served our country, we will be collecting necessity items for the residents of the NH Veterans Home in Tilton. Last year we collected over 1300 pairs of socks for the US troops overseas!

In the spirit of giving, December is a busy month for our members. We had great success last year collecting holiday meals for families in need. We collected over 60 baskets of non-perishables as well as fresh food including a turkey. The baskets are filled and assembled by REALTOR® members and are delivered to several local agencies for distribution. The project has been growing over the years and we hope to fill at least 100 baskets this year! We will also be volunteering as operators for the WLNH Children’s Auction in December.
