The student work crew from the Huot Technical Center was among the award recipients at last evenings Greater Laconia/Weirs Beach Chamber of Commerce 86th Annual Dinner. The high school students were recognized with a special "Tool Belt Award" for their work in constructing the concession stand and storage building at the new Robbie Mills Sports Complex on Meredith Center Road.
Two of the teachers at the Huot Center, Jerry Murphy (plumbing and heating) and David Dupuis (building trades) accepted the award on behalf of the students.
Former chamber president Adrienne Stevens (Southern New Hampshire University) handed out the annual "Golden Hammer" and "Golden Trowel" awards for excellence in new construction and renovation and landscaping.
Golden Hammer awards went to Vista Foods (Roy Burke), Channel Marine (Vin Mullarkey), The Winnipesaukee Playhouse (Brian Halperin), the Carey House/Salvation Army (Major David Dickson), Public Service of New Hampshire (Jim Cailler), Church Landing/The Inns at Mill Falls (Rusty McLear), Logs of Fun Arcade & Mini Golf (Rusty and Kim Bertholet) and the Belknap County Nursing Home (Nancy Cook and Christopher Boothby, Belknap County Commissioner).
Golden Trowel awards were given to RASCO Leasing for the Canal Street Courtyard (Robert Sawyer), the Water Street Cafe (Ted and Jennifer Roy), the Laconia Country Club (Nance Curtis and Tom DiFonzo) and the City of Laconia for the Robbie Mills Sports Complex (Eileen Cabanel, City Manager).
The Veteran's Square Memorial Committee was given a Golden Trowel Award for their work in downtown Laconia. Volunteer designed Christina Mae Carroll accepted the award.
