The Meredith Police will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint somewhere in the town during the coming weekend of August 15 and 16. Chief Kevin Morrow said that the checkpoint is intended to detect and apprehend impaired motorists.
The checkpoint was authorized by Justice Kathleen McGuire of the Belknap County Superior Court and funded by a grant by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The New Hampshire Highway Safety Agency recommends sobriety checkpoints as the most effective means of identifying persons who are driving while intoxicated.
