LACONIA — This Valentine’s Day, skip the chocolate, grab the ice skates, and head to Merrill Fay Arena for an afternoon of skating with Belmont's first responders.
The event will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14.
“The message behind Skate with a First Responder is simple: while officers may look different in uniform, they are your neighbors, and they proudly serve you and our community,” said Belmont Police Capt. Evan Boulanger.
The skating event is meant to reinforce a commitment to the community, as well as foster relationships between the public and its first responders.
“This event is designed to build positive connections outside of the challenging circumstances in which first responders often interact with the public,” Boulanger said. “Opportunities like this help foster trust, create positive memories for children and families, and strengthen relationships that can carry forward into everyday interactions.”
Many Belmont first responders are enthusiastic hockey players who want to share their love of being on the ice with others. One officer in particular, Syntia Somogyi, spearheaded the idea, and created the partnership with the arena.
“With strong support from the department, the goal is to bring together residents of all ages for a fun, welcoming experience on the ice,” Boulanger said.
Children 5 and under are free. Skate rentals are available for a fee.
“The Belmont Police Department looks forward to sharing smiles, laughter, and meaningful moments with the community through this event,” Boulanger said.
The Merrill Fay Arena is located at 468 Province Road. For more information, visit Belmont Police Department on Facebook or belmontnh.gov/police-department.
