LACONIA — School board Chair Nick Grenon (Ward 5) recently submitted his resignation for personal reasons, leaving a seat open just ahead of the fall election.
Residents of Ward 5 interested in serving can submit a letter of interest to the school district office at 39 Harvard St. or to laconia-school-board@laconiaschools.org by Thursday, Aug. 14. The school board will select someone to fill the seat until a new member is voted in at the municipal election on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
To fill the vacancy for the one year remaining in Grenon’s term, citizens of Ward 5 can file for the election. The filing period opened Wednesday and runs through Friday, Aug. 15.
At a meeting Tuesday, the board elected LaToya Beck-Brown (Ward 4) as the new chair. She will serve in the role until the board holds its annual election in November for chair, vice chair and clerk.
In addition to the Ward 5 seat, Wards 2 and 3 will also have elections on the ballot in November.
Incumbents Laura Dunn (Ward 2) and Karin Salome (Ward 3) are the only candidates who had filed as of Friday afternoon.
Those interested in filing for any of the seats need to sign a statement of candidacy and show identification at the City Clerk’s Office.
A ward map and additional election information can be found at laconianh.gov/176/elections.
