LACONIA — Traffic jams on Elm Street, caused by parents waiting to pick up or drop off their children at school, have caught the attention of City Hall.

Superintendent Steve Tucker will update the school board about this development at its meeting on Tuesday, July 16. The meeting will be held at the district office at 39 Harvard St. beginning at 5:30 p.m.

During his report to the board, Tucker is expected to brief the board on a recent meeting that included representatives from the district and the City Council's Public Safety Committee, where discussion included a possible solution in the form of a road that would connect Bond Beach Road, which runs behind the school property, to the school parking lot. The new road would route waiting parents away from Elm Street, where they currently line up and cause congestion during dismissal times.

Also at the meeting, the board will share that Nerma Krupic, a senior at Laconia High School and the student representative on the school board, is a winner of a $2,000 scholarship awarded by the New Hampshire School Boards Association.

The scholarship is awarded based on academic achievement, active participation in school events, community service and the completion of an essay.
