LACONIA — A teenage skateboarder was hospitalized with minor injuries after a pickup truck hit the back of their board on Saturday night. Police are now looking to speak with the driver of the truck, who left the scene.
Fire Chief Tim Joubert said the department received a call at 7:20 p.m. on March 14, about a juvenile male who was hit by a vehicle while skateboarding in the area of 981 North Main Street. He said when crews arrived at the scene everyone was gone, so they worked with the police department to locate the skateboarder on Blueberry Lane.
Police Chief Matt Canfield said it appears the 14-year-old male was riding his skateboard along the white line when a pickup truck hit the skateboard. He fell, causing minor injuries to his ankles and knees, which came from the ground, not from being struck by the truck, according to Canfield.
“It was a pretty significant scrape on his knee,” Canfield said, and noted he was taken to Concord Hospital-Laconia by his mother to be examined.
Canfield said the truck stopped, but then left the scene, so police are investigating the circumstances of why the driver left. While it is not yet considered a hit-and-run, Canfield said the investigation includes looking into why the driver of the truck left the scene after the accident. Police are also seeking any surveillance footage from the area.
Canfield said police were given a good description of the pickup truck, which he said was black, and possibly a Ford F-150.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has information, is urged to contact Laconia Police at 603-524-5252.
