A year after being hired as the School Resource Officer (SRO) for Gilford Elementary and Middle Schools, Timothy Barone has left his post. Gilford selectmen accepted his resignation on June 29.
Barone, who in addition to serving as SRO assisted with the Gilford Police Explorers program, came to the department from Newport, where he reportedly worked for its police department for three years.
According to Gilford School Board Chairman Paul Blandford, the school district continues to support the SRO program, which has been funded by grant money. But finding a replacement for Barone isn't on the board's agenda.
"The position is with the police department, so it's up to Juris (Police Chief Evans Juris) to find a replacement," Blandford said. "That isn't something the school board gets involved in."
