GILFORD — Students from Gilford Middle School celebrated Halloween and fall during their harvest festival Friday afternoon.
The school held a pumpkin decorating contest, where students were charged with representing vacation destinations all over the world.
A team of seventh graders won first prize for their depiction of Garfield, a cartoon cat known for enjoying lasagna and employing a surly attitude. The students, who are classmates in the same advisory, will be rewarded with a pizza party.
Students from the winning Garfield team include Scott Bowe, Zoe Criscone, Logan Currier, Colt French, Isla Hogan, Ryan Nunez, Mahi Patel, Erika Shokal, Katrina Tripp and others.
Second place was earned by a team of students and school employees for their depiction of Shrek, and a depiction of Italy won third place.
Outside on a large athletic field on the campus, the entirety of the student body enjoyed events including a footrace holding pumpkins, facepainting, a soccer shootout, a creation station, trivia, hook-a-duck, corn hole, a bake sale, bottle cap tic-tac-toe, “Anthony’s Fishing Game” and other recreational activities.
Officers with the Gilford Police Department provided security for the event.
The harvest festival is held to celebrate the school’s community and to reward a job well done by students and staff through the fall portion of the school year.
