A complaint of a domestic assault at 17 A Dyer Street had officers searching overnight Friday for Clifton A. English, 39, who resides at the Dyer Street residence.
According to a statement released by police, officers responded to the complaint around 3 a.m. Friday night and found that the suspect had left the residence. However, while officers were at the scene making out their report, English returned to the home and started threatening police and the initial victim. He then allegedly grabbed a knife and fled the residence out a back door.
Police say he then drove away at a high rate of speed in a white, 2000 Chevrolet Blazer — striking a parked car as he left. English reportedly fled south on Route 3 into Belmont.
But the suspect did not totally elude police, who took him into custody when he returned home around 7:20 a.m. Saturday. English has been charged with Simple Assault, Conduct After an Accident, Disobeying an Officer, and Reckless Driving.
