Two new warnings for cyanobacteria blooms have been added around Lake Winnipesaukee. The Department of Environmental Services cautions people recreating near The Broads and Governor's Island to be careful using the lake.

The warnings are active as of Tuesday. There is also a new cyanobacteria warning for 19 Mile Bay in Tuftonboro, also issued Tuesday by DES.

DES has also released a fecal bacteria advisory for Ellacoya State Park Beach in Gilford.

Cyanobacteria blooms identified this week by DES are those of gloeotrichia, a different form of bacteria from blooms observed earlier this year on the big lake. Gloeotrichia is commonly observed at this time of year.

DES describes the gloeotrichia blooms as "green and yellowish dots throughout the water column and collecting on the surface forming streaks."

Cyanobacteria can cause illness or be potentially fatal if ingested by people or animals.

A warning issued for Jockey Cove in Wolfeboro on Aug. 19 also remains active, as does a watch for Alton Bay issued the same day.
