TILTON — A first of its kind recycling initiative is set to incentivize customers to return their bottles of Jack Daniel’s whiskey in exchange for a discount at the liquor store.
The New Hampshire Liquor Commission and Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey are teaming up to encourage customers to “bring back Jack” in celebration of Earth Month.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 10 is the consumer's last chance to “bring back Jack” and recycle empty glass wine or liquor bottles. The liquor store is located at 80 Market St.
The recycling initiative allows customers and owners of local bars and restaurants to return and recycle glass bottles, including those which contain the spirits produced by Jack Daniel’s, at select NH Liquor & Wine outlets including the location in Tilton.
More than 23,000 pounds of glass have been collected throughout this year’s program to date, according to a news release.
Customers who bring at least 12 empty glass wine or liquor bottles to select NH liquor outlets will receive $25 off an in-store purchase of $150 or more. New Hampshire on-premise licensees, like bar and restaurant owners, who recycle at least 107 empty glass bottles — a nod to Jack Daniel’s “Old No. 7” — will receive 10% off an in-store purchase of $10,000.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the glass recycling percentage in the U.S. is 31%. Glass can be recycled endlessly. About 7.6 million tons of non-recycled glass waste go to landfills each year, representing approximately 5% of all waste. Since the program started in 2023, more than 91,500 pounds of glass have been collected and recycled into new glass bottles.
