Union Ave briefly closed Tuesday after pedestrian injured from fall off sidewalk

LACONIA — A pedestrian using a walker fell into parking spaces along Union Avenue Tuesday afternoon. He was sent to the hospital with injuries from the fall.

Laconia Fire Chief Tim Joubert said his department was sent to 765 Union at 12:01 p.m. on Sept. 22, for reports of a man who was injured from a fall.

Bystanders at the scene who knew the patient said he was a 68-year-old living at the Lake Village Senior Apartments, who often walks to the convenience store nearby. They said he appeared to have hit his head when he fell, and there was blood on the pavement.

Bystanders across the street said it looked like he fell and stumbled off the curb, and fortunately, was not hit by any vehicles. Joubert said he was not struck by a vehicle.

“It was definitely just injuries from a fall,” Joubert said.

The man, who was lying on his back with a walker next to him when first responders arrived, had his neck secured with a brace before being put onto a stretcher and into an ambulance. He was taken to Concord Hospital-Laconia to be treated for injuries.

Laconia Police assisted with directing traffic, and the 700 block of Union was briefly limited to one-way traffic. Police turned around vehicles heading north while the scene was cleared.

The ambulance left for the hospital at 12:21 p.m., and arrived at 12:27 p.m. The scene was cleared completely by 12:23 p.m., and the ambulance was back in service at 12:46 p.m.
