TILTON — A rower was killed on Sunday morning when the scull he was operating was struck by a pontoon boat.

Thomas Mead, 76, of Tilton, was sculling on Lake Winnisquam at around 6:40 a.m. on July 28 when he collided with a pontoon boat being piloted by a 17-year-old. 

The 17-year-old attempted to rescue Mead, pulling him onto his boat and performing CPR until emergency responders arrived. Mead was transported to Concord Hospital-Laconia, where he was pronounced dead.

Emergency services which responded included Marine Patrol, police departments from Tilton and Sanbornton, and fire departments from Belmont, Franklin and Tilton-Northfield.
