LACONIA — Belknap Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Leonard declared a mistrial Wednesday morning in the case of Hassan Sapry, charged with first- and second degree murder, and other crimes related to the death of Wilfred Guzman Sr. on April 18, 2019.

Sapry, 24, had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, citing his exposed to extreme violence and the kidnapping of his father while a child growing up in Baghdad, Iraq.

The mistrial comes after two days of canceled court sessions on Monday and Tuesday. The judge did not make public the reason for the mistrial.

The trial had seen one week of testimony from prosecution witnesses. The prosecution rested their case on Thursday.
