GILFORD — There were no injuries following a minor crash between a recreational sailboat and the Gilford Fire Department boat on Lake Winnipesaukee on Monday evening.
“There was very minor damage,” according to a written report, Fire Chief Steve Carrier said.
A recreational Sunfish sailboat ran into the Gilford fire boat, docked at the town docks on Dock Road, at 5:09 p.m. on July 21.
State Police officers arrived to find one occupant of the sailboat in the water and, according to that person’s self-report, they were not injured and did not require a rescue.
“It’s fairly shallow water there, so there was no reason to rescue anybody,” Carrier said.
The sailboat bumped the fire boat, leaving it with only minor scratches.
Marine Patrol officers determined the collision was accidental and likely weather-related. No personnel were aboard the Gilford fire boat at the time, and the sailboat operator was not injured. The damage was less than $2,000, the threshold for any incident to be formally documented as a boating accident, a New Hampshire Department of Safety spokesperson said Tuesday afternoon.
No charges are anticipated.
