BELMONT — A motorist who was badly injured in a serious crash on Route 106 which left a motorcyclist dead has been released from the hospital, police report.

Tricia Abbott, 53, of Loudon, has been discharged from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon where she was in intensive care for more than two weeks.

Abbott “is back home with family assistance,” according to Belmont police Capt. Rich Mann, who said he had spoken to Abbott’s family.

After being unconscious and in critical condition for many days, Abbott’s condition had improved slightly two weeks ago, and although she was no longer on a breathing tube she was said to be still unresponsive.

Mann said he was told Abbott still “has a long way to go” in her recovery.

Abbott was injured when, according to police, her car crossed into the oncoming lane of Route 106 on the evening of Sept. 3 and collided head-on with a motorcycle being driven by William Ray, 65, of Laconia, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A third motorist who was involved in the crash escaped injury.
