Jeopardy! fans will take hearing champion Peter McFerrin’s speak for another game, please. Fans of the game show have been swooning over his dulcet tones, saying he could be a voice actor.
McFerrin, now living in California, is originally from Indiana, so he still has a noticeable southern accent. He shared that he grew up in Illinois, where he met Yogesh Raut and James Holzhauer in school and while playing softball. The energy industry professional is being talked about among the fandom for his deep voice.
Typically, fans only hear a word or two when contestants give responses, but McFerrin had a pretty long interview during his second game, so fans got to hear his accent and voice more, coming to a conclusion on how much they liked it.
“Does anyone else think Peter McFerrin has a voice for announcing/radio?” a Facebook user in the group Jeopardy Fan Group said.
“He’s got a great voice,” another fan said. However, some commented that they don’t think his voice would be good for the radio because of his accent.
“Yes. I love his voice,” one wrote.
“Couldn’t agree more,” a third wrote.
“Sounds like a cowboy, which is a great thing,” a fan said.
“Liking Peter… Smart, likeable, and love his voice,” another wrote.
“I like his voice, and I think his accent is charming,” one commented.
“Peter would make a great voice-over artist!” someone on another post said.
“Love his voice. Crystal clear. A bit swag to it..a bit drawl,” one fan commented.
“That’s exactly what we said, or a character voice,” a Facebook user said.
A third post said that McFerrin sounded like actor Gerald McCraney, who was on Simon & Simon, Major Dad, Deadwood, House of Cards, NCIS: Los Angeles, and more.
Some fans were confused why he had a southern accent, if he is originally from Illinois. The state is considered a “Midwestern State.” Southern Illinois touches Kentucky, which is in the south, so that could be the explanation for it.
Going into his third game on June 3, McFerrin has already won $68,198. Tune in to Jeopardy! weeknights to find out if his streak will continue.
