GILFORD — Gunstock Mountain Resort opened an Adventure Slope on Lower Smith trail near the base of the Panorama Lift on Feb. 14. The slope has fun for kids and adults alike, with berms, banked turns, rollers, and jumps, and a tunnel at the end.
Gunstock's Adventure Slope is an entry-level terrain park with small features for all ages and every ability. It’s interactive as well, with a unique, motion-activated talking box feature that calls out New England-isms, applause, nature sounds, and horns, as you ski or ride over it. This fun feature is at the start of the slope.
“We like to refer to the Adventure Slope as a gateway run to our terrain parks,” said Gunstock President and General Manager Tom Day. “Building this required time and effort by our team of groomers, snowmakers, terrain park crew, and ski patrol to make it a special area unlike any other resort in New England.”
The Adventure Slope will allow skiers and riders to gain confidence as they experience features such as rollers and banked turns without feeling any intimidation of the larger elements of a full terrain park.
“The Adventure Slope will be used in Snowsport School as an educational component for students to try different terrain to build skills naturally,” said Peter Weber, snowsports director.
Effective Edge, a consulting company based in Lake Tahoe, Calif., collaborated with Gunstock to create the Adventure Slope.
“What makes it even more unique is that it has incorporated Gunstock’s original halfpipe dirt work from the 1980s,” said Michael Bettera, president of Effective Edge. “We are combining a very old style feature offering and re-formatting into one of the newest.”
