MOULTONBOROUGH — William J. Daly, age 70, a former longtime Braintree, Massachusetts, resident, died peacefully, Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, at the Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Milton, Massachusetts, surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born in Quincy, Massachusetts, to the late Joseph W. and Cecelia E. (Veno) Daly. He was raised in Quincy and was a graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1965, and later attended ITT Technical School in Boston.
He and his wife, Elda, had recently moved to Moultonborough after living in Braintree for 40 years. He also enjoyed spending time at his home in North Fort Myers, Florida.
As a young man, Bill began his career working at the former Fore River Shipyard in Quincy, Massachusetts, for General Dynamics where he graduated from the ship’s carpenter apprentice school. He then worked at the Boston Naval Shipyard in Charlestown, Massachusetts, for the U.S. Navy and was proud to be involved with the restoration of the U.S.S. Constitution from 1976 through 1979.
Bill transferred to the National Park Service in Boston where he had 30 years of service and retired as a maintenance foreman.
After retirement, he enjoyed working for 15 years at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Massachusetts, as an employee shuttle bus driver where he made many friends.
He was an avid New England Patriot fan and golfer. He played at the D.W. Field Golf Course in Brockton, Massachusetts, and when in Florida, daily at Fort Myers Country Club. He and his wife loved cruises and had traveled throughout the world. He was a former member of the Adams Heights Men’s Club in Quincy, Massachusetts.
Most of all, Bill was dedicated to his family, always supporting their many activities and accomplishments.
He was the beloved husband for 50 years of Elda R. (LeVangie) Daly, devoted father of Joseph W. Daly and his fiancée Lisa Grondin of Quincy, Massachusetts, Michelle M. Bruttaniti of Brockton, Massachusetts, Kimberly M. MacDonald and her husband Mark of Moultonborough; loving grandfather and Papa of Jami-Lynne, Matthew and J.T. Bruttaniti and Kaleigh and Markie MacDonald; step-grandfather of Andrew and Alex Grondin and the late Tony Grondin; cherished great-grandfather of Avery “The Babe” and Xavier; step-great-grandfather of Lylah and Anthony; dear brother of Jo-Ann Hogan and her late husband Loren of Pennsylvania, Lorraine Knudsen and her husband Harry of Braintree, Massachusetts, Suzanne Daly of Florida, and the late Michael Daly; and brother-in-law of Donna and Guy Grey of Wallingford, Connecticut. Bill is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Those attending the funeral service will gather at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue in Quincy, Massachusetts, on Monday, Sept. 10, at 9:30 a.m. and then progress to the Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington St. in Braintree, Massachusetts, for the funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will be at Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree, Massachusetts.
Visiting hours will be the funeral home on Sunday, Sept. 9, from 2 to 6 p.m.
