BELMONT — William "Bill" Duggan Sr., 90, of Belmont, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Jan. 20, 2025. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Bill touched countless lives with his warmth, humor, and passion for storytelling.
Bill was born on Nov. 11, 1934, in Wilmington, Massachusetts, to the late John “Mike” Duggan and Margaret Howes Duggan. He was one of 10 boys out of 14 children in a large and loving family. Bill proudly served his country during the Korean War as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. A proud veteran, his service exemplified his dedication and sense of duty.
Family was at the heart of Bill’s life. He shared 60 wonderful years with his wife, Barbara Jean Duggan, who predeceased him in 2020. Together, they created a life full of love, laughter and cherished memories. Bill and Barbara both became shuffleboard professionals and loved spending their winters at their home in Sarasota, Florida, where they enjoyed the ocean. They also treasured time at the family camp in Pittsburg, surrounded by nature and wildlife.
Bill had a lifelong passion for motorsports and was actively involved when his son raced. A devoted NASCAR fan, he never missed a race. He also loved his Brockway trucks, often building them from scratch — a testament to his craftsmanship and creativity. Later in life, Bill found peace in fishing, spending countless hours by the water with a fishing pole in hand.
Known for his larger-than-life personality, Bill was a natural storyteller who could captivate any room. He loved making people laugh and would often say his two favorite things, besides his family, were eating and talking.
Bill is survived by his oldest daughter, Donna Cilley-Lewandoski and her husband Mark Lewandoski of Belmont; his son, William Duggan Jr. and his wife Tracey of Belmont; and his youngest daughter, Brenda Duggan and her significant other, James Bassett, of Belmont. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, James Cilley, Joseph Cilley and his wife Kristen, Kelly Crowley and David Plummer, Brian Duggan, Christopher Duggan, Matt King and Emily Drouin; and four great-grandchildren, Hannah Cilley, Mathew Cilley, Greyson Cilley and Nora Rose Cilley.
There are no calling hours.
A graveside burial will take place in the spring, where both Bill and Barbara will be laid to rest together. Family and friends will be invited to celebrate their lives and the beautiful legacy they leave behind. The date of the service will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s memory to Granite VNA, 30 Pillsbury St., Concord, NH 03301. His family extends heartfelt thanks to all who have supported them during this time.
