Master Sgt. Shirley E. Griffin, USMC (Ret), Ed as he preferred to be called, of Osgood Road, in Sanbornton, died with his family at his side on Jan. 22, 2026, following a short illness.
Ed was born on May 25, 1947, in Laconia, son of the late Sherwood E. and Eunice (née Jondro) Griffin. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Sherwood and Irene Griffin, Bernard and Eunice Sharp and by his son-in-law Bradley Laughy.
Ed worked for the Sanbornton Highway Department from 1965-66, when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served his country and Corps until his retirement in 1987. After returning home he rejoined the Sanbornton Highway Department, working his way up from laborer to the last elected road agent. After leaving the town he spent his later years as a truck driver, working for his daughter, until he once again retired in 2010.
Ed leaves behind his childhood sweetheart, best friend and loving wife Joan Dale (Sanville) Griffin of Sanbornton; his children, Barbara Laughy, Steven and his wife Missy Griffin of Sanbornton, Tammy and her husband Jason Plourde of Perry, Florida, and Sanbornton, Charlie Robinson of Bridgewater, Johanna and her husband Nick Blais of Franklin, Mason and his wife Kandace Robinson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and his brother Brian and his wife Joann Griffin of Franklin. He also leaves his grandchildren, Cody and Jessica Griffin, Emma and Sam Griffin, Hannah Laughy, Gunner Blais, Zach Plourde, Luman and Isla Robinson, Bree and her husband Ryan Camber, Anita and her husband Raul Verduzco, Cassandra and her husband Froylan Rivera; and several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
According to Ed's wishes there will be no calling hours. Burial will be held privately for the family in the summer.
