FRANKLIN — Ruth E. (Mansfield) Stevens, 82, of 163 Lake Shore Drive in Franklin died Sunday, March 27, 2005 at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston following a short illness. She was born in Framingham, Massachusetts, on April 26, 1922, the daughter of Chester W. and Mary K. (Gallagher) Mansfield. She was a graduate of the Somersworth, N.H. High School.
Prior to moving to Franklin 36 years ago she lived in Natick, Massachusetts. For over 20 years Ruth was a legal secretary for the law firm of Alexander M. Lachiatto in Franklin. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #49 in Northfield, life member of the VFW National Home, and VFW Post #1698 in Franklin, member of Twin Rivers Red Hat Society, Apollo Club in Franklin, and life member of the DAV. She enjoyed her many hours spent at the Senior Trip Center in Franklin.
Ruth’s life was surrounded by her family. Her daughter, Nancy, grandchildren, John, Sheri, David and great-grandchildren, Savanah and Thomas. With much excitement, Ruth looked forward to the upcoming birth in six weeks of her new great-grandson, Evan Francis Gonthier.
She was predeceased by her husband, Orland “Bud” F. Stevens Jr.; and by her daughter, Judith A. Keating. Her family includes, her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy R. and Louis Waltos Jr. of Franklin; grandchildren, John Bastis of Laconia, Sheri Gonthier of Manchester, and David Keating of Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Savanah Bastis and Thomas Bastis; and stepchildren, Trudy Jennings, Orland Stevens III, Debbie Ruiz and Gladys Wilcox.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road in Tilton. VFW Memorial Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. in the Memorial Home. Private burial will be later in the spring in Franklin Cemetery in Franklin.
