WOLCOTT, Conn. — Robert John Butler, age 55 of Wolcott, Connecticut, died on Friday, August 25, 2006 following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on September 8, 1950 in Fairfield, Connecticut, the son of John J and Margaret Butler of Trumbull, Conn.

Bob graduated from Milford Academy, earned a BS in Special Education from Southern Connecticut State University and a MS in Educational Psychology from the University of Connecticut. Bob was proud of his life's work, especially as the Executive Director of Living In Safe Alternatives, Inc. (L.I.S.A, Inc.) since 1984. He worked in residential care in MA and CT and was a special education teacher for Hartford and CREC. Bob served in leadership roles in AEGIS and the Connecticut Children's Council. He was a mentor/father to innumerable adolescents who have needed his guidance and support.

Family members include his loving wife of 33 years Margaret, two brothers, Paul J Butler of Huntington, Conn, and Peter J Butler of Gilford, NH and three sisters, Jean Foote and Ann M Schofield, both of Laconia, NH and Janet T Ainsworth of Bedford, Texas and five nephews and three neices.

He was predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret Butler of Alton, NH, two brothers, Jack Butler in 1993

and Kenneth J Butler in 2000 and a sister, Kathleen Butler in 1991.

Calling hours will be on Monday at Della Vecchia Funeral Home 690 Woodtick Rd Wolcott, CT 06716, from 4 PM to 8 PM. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Maria Goretti Roman Catholic Church on Woodtick Road, Wolcott, CT on Tuesday at 10 AM.
