Peter A. French, 86

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Peter Adams French announce his passing at Sommers Hospice in Sebring, Florida, on Jan. 6, 2026, at the age of 86. He was a resident of both Sebring, Florida, and Holderness.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jan R. French; four children, Adam Downs (Michelle), Matthew Downs (Alison), Tina Spence, and Tyler French; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two cousins and three nephews. He is preceded in passing by his parents, Marshall and Susan French; two brothers, David and Jon French; and his favorite pups Marley and Annie.

Peter was born on May 12,1939, in Manchester, to his parents Marshall and Susan French. His early years were spent in Goffstown, New Boston and Weare. He attended New Hampton School and graduated from Nichols College with an associate's degree in accounting.

In 1957, the family moved to Meredith, and opened Meredith Motor Co. Inc. This began Peter's long legacy and passion for the automotive business, and more specifically the Ford brand. He was a well respected and active member of the automotive community for over 50 years. His reputation as a dealer principal and employer was a great one. He loved the car business, his family, his fur babies and golf. He and his wife were still playing almost daily up until his sudden illness.

Services will be held in New Hampshire at a later date to be announced.
