Myrtle S. Moore, 92
MEREDITH — Myrtle S. Moore, 92, of Meredith, passed away Thursday, Nov. 11, 2016, at Genesis Healthcare Wolfeboro Bay Center after a period of declining heath. She was the widow of the late Albert R. Moore.
Born on Feb. 2, 1924, in South Tamworth, she was the daughter of Nathan J. and Gladys Marion (Ames) Stacy. Myrtle was raised in Tamworth and graduated from Tamworth High School and Oxford Secretarial School in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Myrtle began her career as an office manager at John F. Chick & Son in Silver Lake, where she worked for 11 years. Upon moving to Moultonborough in 1956 she began working as a bookkeeper for the Wirthmore Store in Meredith which later became Meredith Lumber, retiring in 1986.
During her retirement, Myrtle worked part-time for three years for the Meredith Public Health Nursing Association.
In August 2016, Myrtle was honored with a certificate of recognition for her 60 years of loyal membership in the Order of The Eastern Star, Calvin Topliff 18 in Freedom.
Taking road trips with Albert was a favorite pastime, especially when traveling in her Buick. She enjoyed a cross-country trip to California, several trips to Florida, and visiting old friends along the way. Keeping in touch with friends and family was important to Myrtle. Writing handwritten notes was a specialty of hers and receiving one was a pleasure bestowed on many. The "circle of girls" she graduated with at Oxford were cherished lifelong friends and held annual get-togethers until recent years throughout New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts.
Myrtle enjoyed weekly card parties and bowling with her gal pals in the Meredith Bowling League. She was an excellent cook and her homemade pie crust and cream puffs have yet to be replicated by family members or friends.
She loved spending time with her family and friends and sharing treasured memories of her youth and the time she spent helping her Dad on Bemis Farm in South Tamworth.
Myrtle is survived by her children, Nathan Hazeltine (Lisa) of Gilford, Malcolm Hazeltine Jr. of Wolfeboro, Beth Miller of Meredith and Patty Kresco of Moultonborough; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; her stepson, Robert; stepdaughter, Terri; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her former husband and the father of her children, Malcolm F. Hazeltine Sr. of Center Harbor; her sisters, Louise Leighton, Priscilla Atwood, Cristobel Eldridge; and her son-in-law, Richard Miller of Meredith.
Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Lakes Region Visiting Nursing Association, 186 Waukewan St., Meredith, NH. 03253 or http://www.lrvna.org
