BELMONT — Martha Linda Smith, 75, of Brown Hill Road, Belmont, passed away in her home on Feb. 1, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, after a long battle with Parkinson’s.

Martha was born on Feb. 11, 1949, in Laconia, the daughter of Roland Hamel and Josephine (Gardner) Stockwell.

She enjoyed traveling, reading, bowling, dancing, painting, swimming, photography and spending time with her family. For many years she managed the Belmont Village Store where she was loved by many. She continued her career at New Hampshire Ball Bearing, where she retired in 2017.

Martha is survived by her son, Matthew Smith and his wife Sherr; daughters Natalie Weeks and husband Marcus, Malinda Laflam and husband William, and Lesley Wells and husband Fred; grandchildren Joslyn White and husband Mike, Paige Laflam, Rachael Weeks, Brian Weeks and wife Logan, Emily Laflam, Ryann Wells and partner Patrick Boswell, and Nathan Wells; four great-grandchildren; brothers Robert Hamel and wife Ginny and Stephen Hamel; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Martha is predeceased by her beloved husband, Nathan R. Smith, and her sister-in-law Kathleen Hamel, as well as her loving grandparents.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date at Gardner Cove in Gilmanton.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Martha’s name can be made to Lakes Region VNA, 186 Waukewan St., #6023, Meredith, NH 03253.
