GILFORD — Katherine Black Tjarks, 78, of Smith Cove Road, passed away on June 11, 2026, at Concord Hospital-Laconia.
Katherine was born on Nov. 8, 1947, in Bronxville, New York, the daughter of the late Leonard Black and Mary (Kelly) Black.
Katherine lived a life defined by generosity, adventure, and a deep appreciation for the joys that brought people together. Whether spending a sunny afternoon on the water, exploring snowy trails, or sharing stories with loved ones, Katherine embraced every season of life.
A devoted lover of boating and lake life, Katherine found peace and happiness on the water. Countless memories were made cruising across the lake, watching sunsets from the shore, and gathering with family and friends at favorite lakeside spots. Winter brought another passion — snowmobiling. Katherine eagerly anticipated each snowfall and cherished the freedom and excitement of riding through the beautiful winter landscape.
When not outdoors, Katherine could often be found with a good book in hand or enjoying classic movies.
Katherine treasured family. She found the greatest joy in spending time with loved ones, celebrating milestones, sharing traditions, and creating memories that will be cherished for generations. Katherine touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Katherine is survived by her son Gerard Sartori and his wife Liz; daughter Meghan Christensen; brothers William “Bill” Black and his wife Sheelah, and Philip K. Black; sisters Meribeth W. Moore and her husband Robert, and Nancy A. Black; grandchildren Abigail Sartori, Gerard Sartori, Peter Christensen and Jack Christensen; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Katherine is predeceased by her brother Gregory B. Black.
There will be no calling hours.
Though deeply missed, Katherine's legacy lives on in every boat ride across calm waters, every snowy trail, every beloved book and classic film, and most importantly, in the hearts of the family and friends who loved her dearly.
