FRANKLIN — Josephine Edith Nichols, passed away on her 96th birthday, Nov. 21, 2025, at Peabody Place in Franklin.

Josephine was born on Nov. 21, 1929, in East Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of Stanley and Dora (Smith) Shappell.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting and gardening. She loved to sing and was a member of the New Hampshire Festive Chorus for more than 20 years, and Lakes Region Singers for 12 years.

She is survived by her sons, Andrew Nichols of Plymouth, Ralph Nichols of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, Whitney Nichols of Brattleboro, Vermont, and Philip Nichols of Santa Fe, New Mexico; her brother William Shappell, and several nieces, nephews and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Josephine was predeceased by her daughters Nancy Stearns and Catherine Whitney, her sisters Helen Jackson and Margaret Gordon and her brothers Donald Shappell and Duane Shappell.

At this time there will be no services.
