GILFORD — It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of George Alphonse Lavallee Jr., who left this world on Jan. 11, 2026, at the age of 81, surrounded by family and friends.

George was born on June 18, 1944, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, to George Alphonse Lavallee Sr. and Aline Renaud Lavallee.

He graduated from King Philip High School in Wrentham, Massachusetts, in 1963.

George honorably served in the United States Army Reserve from 1964 to 1970 as a combat engineer assigned to Company A, 86th Engineer Battalion under First United States Army.

He married Marjorie Louise Bremilst of Norfolk, Massachusetts, on Dec. 28, 1969. They raised their three children, Kelly Ann Facteau, Kimberly Marie Ashworth, and Jody Alicia Paterson, in Wrentham, Massachusetts.

In 1993, George relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, to pursue his passion: raising and boarding horses. He married Lawanda Merle Hughes, originally from Heber Springs, Arkansas. They shared a beautiful life together until her passing in 2019.

George returned to New England in 2019, to enjoy his final years with his family in Gilford.

George demonstrated a strong work ethic and took great pride in all he did. He was trusted and respected as a hair stylist in Newton, Massachusetts, a long haul over the road semi operator throughout 48 states, Canada and Mexico, a coachman for horse drawn carriages, a private executive driver, as well as a local landscaper.

George had a zest for life, a charming personality and a need for speed. He was known for his bold sense of style and his stories. George loved cruising on his motorcycle, horseback riding, dancing, backgammon and billiards. He had a passion for all things Western — cowboys, horses, movies and music.

George is survived by his children, Kelly, Kim and Jody, and his grandchildren, Madison and Morgan Ashworth, and Sadie Paterson; sons-in-law Richard Facteau, Daniel Ashworth and Ryan Paterson; his former wife, Marjorie St. Don; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He is predeceased by his wife Lawanda, his parents and his siblings, Gene Lavallee, Rena Paine, Lucille Lavallee, Roger Lavallee and Lucien Lavallee.

He will be sincerely missed by everyone who had the honor and pleasure of knowing him.

Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of George’s life to be held at The Hilltop Restaurant at Steele Hill Resort, 516 Steele Hill Road, Sanbornton, from noon until 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31.
