ALTON — Florence “Floss” Perkins passed away on Feb. 19, 2026, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Floss was born Aug. 30, 1944, to Howard and Florence Roberge and raised in Park Ridge, New Jersey. She moved to New Hampshire in 1969, with her two young children and raised them on her own, blending determination, perseverance, strength of character and unconditional love along the way. In 1982, she met Dave Perkins, the love of her life. They married in 1984, and were inseparable until her passing. They prided themselves on having a warm, welcoming home that was a revolving door of family and friends alike, all year round, rain or shine.
Floss lived an active and adventurous life, and with Dave by her side (a lifelong outdoorsman himself), they were a perfectly matched pair. Floss and Dave loved to ski, snowshoe, hike, snorkel and go motorcycling, naming just a few of their favorite pastimes. Over the years, the pair traveled extensively throughout the United States, including Alaska, Hawaii, the National Parks, and more than 23 islands of the Caribbean. It wasn’t all travel though, Floss and Dave spent more than 20 tranquil summers at Lake Ivanhoe, with Floss accompanying Dave in the boat with one of her ever-present books as he fished.
After the Lake Ivanhoe years passed, Floss and Dave refused to give up their quiet retreats, pulling up stakes and traveling New England, staying in peaceful cabins for the summer and fall. For the past six years, they embraced life as snowbirds, wintering in South Carolina.
Professionally, Floss owned her own salon, tended bar during the summer at Sandy Point, taught students at Portsmouth School of Hair Design, and ultimately educated hair stylists with Farouk Systems, where she continued to share her passion for her craft with the next generation of stylists.
She was predeceased by her parents; her sister Joan Hiles; brother-in-law Don Hiles; her sister Janet Roberge; brother-in-law Robert Perkins; and niece Jodi Beth Skopas. She is survived by her beloved husband of 41 years, David Perkins; her children, Bob Burton, and Sheri and husband Brian Lavallee; her stepsons, David and wife Missi Perkins, and Dan and wife Kasey Perkins; and her grandchildren, Alysha, Shannon, Reid, Connor, Hannah, Cooper, Savannah and Bailey; many nieces and nephews; and Emily, a welcomed extension of the family.
In lieu of flowers, Floss would be honored by a donation to Alton Community Services, 77 Main St. #11C, Alton, NH 03809, to support the less fortunate members of her community.
In keeping with Floss’ wishes there are no scheduled services.
