TILTON — Elaine Katherine (Hollingshead) Baker, 93, of Winter Street, passed away on May 30, 2024, at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton.

Elaine was born on July 15, 1931, in West Point, New York, the daughter of the late William F. Hollingshead and Margaret (Jeheber) Hollingshead. She lived in Highland Falls, New York, until the ‘60s, where she then moved her family to Laconia/Gilford areas.

She was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, which she served for four years. Elaine worked as a receptionist at the Laconia Clinic. She enjoyed puzzles and playing games. She loved baking around the holidays with her daughter Karen and handing out the goodies that she made to everyone she knew: friends, family, the mailmen, and anyone she thought could use some extra sweetness. Elaine enjoyed singing and was a member of various choirs throughout the years. Elaine loved her grandchildren and would boast about them and their adventures to anyone who would listen. Elaine was very active within the NH Veterans Home serving on boards to better the lives of all residents. 

Elaine is survived by her daughter Karen Shepard; son Stephen Baker and his partner Nina Dalpozzal; son Edward A. Baker; grandchildren Kristofer Shepard (wife Kaitlyn), Jonathan Baker and Carly Anne Baker, Harrison Baker; and several nieces and nephews. Elaine is predeceased by her ex-husband and father of her children, Edward C. Baker; brothers William Hollingshead and Richard Hollingshead; sister Diane McCue; and son-in-law Stanley Shepard.

Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, in the Carriage House at Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia.

Burial with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy, Boscawen.

For those who wish, the family suggests memorial contributions in Elaine’s name be made to the NH Veterans Home Recreation Department, 139 Winter St., Tilton, NH 03276.
