David R. Albert, 65
LACONIA — David Raymond Albert, 65, of Holman Street, died peacefully surrounded by his family Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016, at Lakes Region General Hospital after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born Oct. 26, 1950, in Berlin, David was the son of the late Raymond and Elizabeth "Betty" (Rosenberg) Albert.
After graduating from the University of New Hampshire in 1973 he started his 42-year-long career in the print business in Boston for Moore Business Forms and was later transferred to Laconia. Soon after, David started his own business now known as Print and Information Technologies in Bow. The business will continue to be managed and operated by the family.
David was active in his community which included time served on the Laconia School Board and the Laconia City Council. He was most proud of his leadership in the Laconia Critical Issues Committee (LCIC) a group formed in the early 1990s to restore kindergarten, sports and city services dismantled by a group dedicated to a tax-freeze budget. The group also fought against the Weirs Beach secession movement and the establishment of the prison in Laconia.
A keen sense of humor and a hardy laugh are what most people will remember about Dave. He was a good listener and loyal friend. David loved sports and over the years participated in many, but most recently golf, tennis and hiking. He also coached many of his children's teams, including basketball, baseball and soccer. David cherished spending time with family and friends including vacations on Block Island, travel to Florida and Washington, D.C., canoe trips in the Allagash Wilderness, walking his dog and attending sporting events.
David is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Karin (Vagts) Albert; his son, Daniel Albert also of Laconia; his daughter, Kristen Burke and her husband Chris; and granddaughter, Kathryn "Katie" of Hampton; a brother, Steven Albert of Bristol; a sister, Gail LaChance and her husband Zephir of Hooksett; as well as nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Daniel Albert.
A memorial reception will be held on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, from 1 to 4 p.m. at The Belknap Mill, 25 Beacon Street East in Laconia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David Albert's name to the Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center/The Gastrointestinal Cancer Research Fund, 1 Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03766.
