GILFORD — This photographic exhibit explores the enduring beauty, history, and spirit of Ireland — a land both rugged and lyrical, ancient and alive. Through sweeping landscapes, weathered castles, and coastal villages, these images invite viewers into places shaped by time, memory and tradition.

The photographs span many of the counties across Ireland including Antrim, Galway, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Clare, Kerry, and Dublin. Featured locations include the dramatic Cliffs of Moher, Gallarus Oratory, the Rock of Cashel, and centuries-old castles such as Doonagore, Dunguaire, Blarney, and Kilkenny Castle.

More than a travel collection, this exhibit reflects a deeply personal connection to Ireland. For photographer James Cryan, Ireland represents heritage, discovery, and artistic inspiration. A Vietnam veteran and second-generation Irish American, Cryan first traveled to Ireland following his return from military service. That experience began a lifelong appreciation for Irish history, literature, poetry, landscape, and the Gaelic tradition

The exhibit captures both the grandeur and intimacy of Ireland — ancient stone walls standing against Atlantic winds, quiet villages rooted in tradition, Celtic imagery, and landscapes that continue to inspire artists, writers, and travelers from around the world. Don’t miss it this month at the Gilford Public Library.
